Yashasvi Jaiswal has firmly established himself in India’s Test setup, and his latest performance has only strengthened that reputation. In the ongoing second Test against the West Indies, the left-hander from Mumbai produced a superb 175 off 258 balls, laced with 22 fours. Yet, despite his growing stature in red-ball cricket, Yashasvi has not had many chances to prove himself in limited-overs formats. So far, he has represented India in 26 Tests, one ODI, and 23 T20Is. Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes it is only a matter of time before Jaiswal becomes an all-format regular. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that fans might soon stop missing Rohit Sharma once Yashasvi starts opening alongside Shubman Gill in ODIs. “It’s just a question of when, not if. Yashasvi will play across formats very soon. He’s already impressed in T20Is and scored a century too. He’s been consistent in the IPL and was part of the T20 World Cup squad. After that, Shubman Gill moved ahead due to leadership responsibilities,” Chopra explained. “Gill became part of the Asia Cup side, but Yashasvi’s turn will come. You can’t keep him waiting for long. There’s talk about Abhishek Sharma’s inclusion in ODIs, but I think Yashasvi should get his chance first. If he opens with Gill, people might not even miss Rohit,” he added. Rohit Sharma, now 38, recently stepped down as India’s ODI captain, leading to speculation about his international future. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, Rohit is set to focus solely on 50-over cricket. Both he and Yashasvi have been picked for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19. Chopra further predicted that Jaiswal’s standout IPL season is still ahead of him. “In T20s, I don’t think we’ve seen his best yet. He’s got the talent and the hunger. A 750 or even 800-run IPL season is definitely on the cards for him,” he said. The former cricketer also shared an interesting forecast for the future T20 setup, suggesting that after the 2026 T20 World Cup, Yashasvi could become India’s preferred opener, pushing Shubman Gill to No. 3. “Whenever Yashasvi gets an opportunity, he makes the most of it. Once he cements his spot, you won’t miss others. By the next World Cup, he’ll likely be a regular starter in the XI,” Chopra concluded.
